Based upon the documents reviewed, although Sylvester was reported by his Ohio battalion to be sick at home from April through September 1863, it appears he had deserted to the Confederacy in April 1863. He was known to be in Chimbrazo Hospital #1, Danville, Virginia with acute diarrhea. |
