Name: PHILIP E. CAHILL Sex: M Birth: 1769 in Maryland Death: AFT 1860 in Carroll Co., Ohio Biographical Record, Carroll Co., Ohio, Beers, 1891, p. 901 Philip was a native of Pennsylvania where he was engaged in farming. The family was of Irish descent. While a resident of Pennsylvania, Philip was married to Mary McGuire who bore him the following family: Joseph, Philip, John, David, Griffith, Jesse, Mary, Catherine, and Elizabeth. After Mrs. Cahill died, Mr. Cahill chose as his second wife, Ruth West, whose family was identified with the early history of Harrison County. The children of the second marriage were Elish, Elijah, William, James, Levi, Rachel, and Joshua.
After coming to Ohio, Mr.
Cahill remained some time near
Mt. Pleasant, but in 1813 came
with his family to Carroll County and settled on a farm he had
purchased in Perry Township, where he spent the remainder of his
life. The farm, cleared by the family, consisted of 320 acres.
He was a Whig in politics and a leading member of the Methodist
Episcopal Church. He passed away at the
